About
James Reif
Michigan writer, poet, and founder of Wren & Root Press.
A writer of quiet things
James Reif is a Michigan-based writer whose poetry explores memory, family, grief, resilience, and the quiet significance of ordinary moments.
Drawing inspiration from forests, birds, weather, firelight, and familiar rooms, his work often uses the natural world to examine the ways people change, endure, and remain connected to one another.
His collection, A Walk amongst the Wild Flowers, pairs reflective poetry with vintage-inspired watercolor imagery, creating an intimate landscape in which sorrow and hope, uncertainty and courage, can exist side by side. Reif writes with a belief that meaning is often found not in grand revelations, but in careful attention—to what remains, what has been lost, and what continues to grow through the cracks.
He lives in Michigan with his wife and family.
Wren & Root Press
Rooted in attention. Made to endure.
Wren & Root Press is the independent imprint behind James Reif’s work. Its name reflects two recurring concerns in the writing: the overlooked small voice that still sings, and the hidden structures that support growth.
